Willard E. Brummitt, age 76, of Winter Haven, FL, passed away Thursday, December 9, 2021, at Winter Haven Hospital, FL.
He was born December 6, 1945, in Herald, VA, to George and Delphia (Meade) Brummitt and graduated from Coburn High School, Coburn, VA, where he played football and baseball. Willard served in the U.S. Army (The Old Guard), during the Vietnam War where he was a sharp shooter. He was the recipient of many medals of honor including: Purple Heart, National Defense Medal, Gallantry Cross, Civil Actions Honor, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal (1st award) and Combat Infantry Badge. He worked for Ford Motor Company, Sandusky, for 43 years, and was an avid outdoorsman, who loved his dogs, hunting, and fishing.
He is survived by his wife of six years Linda (Holbrook) Brummitt; daughter Cheri (Dan) Heinzerling, Cleveland; son Michael (Wendy) Brummitt, Amherst; daughters Angela (John) Habeck, Huron, Pam (Bill) Nelson, Vermilion, and Heather Holbrook, Vermilion; grandchildren Isabella, Zachary, Gavin, Michael, Jackson, Sawyer, Jocelyn, and Ella; great grandchildren Ryken, Tobias, Avril, and Tyrion; siblings Janice (Maury) Redford and Pete (Audrey) Brummitt.
Willard was preceded in death by his wife of 41 years Vicky Brummitt; siblings Angeline (June) Ritchie, Burnice (Peggy) Brummitt, Bob (Shirley) Brummitt, and Aretta (Vince) Souza.
Friends may call from 10 AM until time of services at 12 Noon, Monday, December 20, 2021, at Ransom Funeral & Cremation Service, 610 S. Washington St., Castalia. Burial will be in McPherson cemetery, Clyde, where military honors will be performed.
