On the morning of Tuesday, February 7, 2023, Virginia Mae (Cheek) Odenweller, age 90, from Catawba Island, was called to her eternal home.
Jenny was born April 2, 1932, in South Webster, Ohio and moved to the Bellevue area prior to starting grade school. She graduated from Margaretta High School in 1949 where she participated in volleyball, basketball and softball earning her varsity letter. After graduation from high school she worked for Philco Corp. where she met the love of her life, Ray C. Odenweller, whom she married on January 13, 1968. She later worked for General Electric of Bellevue for ten years before focusing full time on being a homemaker. Throughout her life she enjoyed watching high school sports, sewing (fixing clothes for everyone including torn uniforms for the Margaretta football team), and volunteering at the church; though nothing compared to the love she had for her family, especially her four grandchildren.
Jenny is survived by her daughter Cindy (Derick) Bailey of Castalia; grandchildren Aubree, Tate, Kale, and Lawson Bailey; sister Ruth Cheek of Sandusky; brothers Ron (Dot) Cheek of Sandusky and Joe (Carolyn) Cheek of Sandusky; and sister-in-law Irene Cheek of Oak Harbor; and numerous nieces, nephews and many other family members.
Jenny was preceded in death by her husband Ray Odenweller; parents Essie & Dora (Wiseman) Cheek; siblings Bessie (Owen) Pooch, George (Alma) Cheek, Carl (Ruthie) Cheek, Howard Cheek, Earl (Joyce) Cheek, Lucille (Edward) Krutil, William Cheek, and Catherine (Randy) Foster.
Friends may call from 5-8 PM Thursday, February 9, 2023, at Ransom Funeral & Cremation Service, 610 S. Washington St., Castalia. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, February 10, 2023, at 11 AM also at Ransom Funeral Home. Rev. Martin Statler will officiate. Burial will be in Castalia Cemetery.
Due to Jenny’s love of sports and the value of education, memorials may be made to Margaretta Athletics or Margaretta Robotics Program. Online condolences and gifts of sympathy may be shared with the family by visiting www.ransomfuneralhome.com
