Marilyn Cummings

Marilyn Cummings, age 94, of Castalia, passed away Monday morning, February 28, 2022, at The Willows at Bellevue. 

Marilyn was born to John W. & Louise (Lipp) Kuemmel in Sandusky, Ohio. She was a 1945 graduate of Sandusky High School. She married Charles W. Cummings October 1, 1947.

Zion Lutheran Church in Sandusky is where Marilyn attended as a child, was baptized, confirmed, and married. She became a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Castalia after her marriage. She was a devout Christian. At Grace she was a member of the choir, taught Sunday School, served as director of Vacation Bible School, president of the congregation and a member of the church council. She also knitted many hats for the church missions and helped with over 500 quilts that were sent overseas.

Marilyn held various jobs at the Sandusky Library starting as a volunteer page while in high school. Her employment began in 1950 and was sporadic until 1963 when she began her steady job at the library and held several positions there until she retired in 1985. Some of those positions were in the children’s department, driving the bookmobile, and as secretary to the director of the library. Marilyn also worked for Kresge’s Corner Store, J.C.Penney, American Crayon, Periodic Publishers, General Motors, Strickfadden’s, Behnke’s Answering Service, the Board of Elections as a poll worker and as a secretary for Grace Lutheran Church in Castalia.  

She is survived by her daughter, Kathleen (Michael) Webb of Vickery; son, Will (Janet) Cummings of Castalia; grandchildren, Nathan Webb of Wake Forest, NC, Samuel Webb of Vickery, Tabitha (Scott) Bleile of Norwalk, Peter Webb of Vickery, and Katie Cummings of Castalia; and ten great-grandchildren, Andrew J., Joshua, Aria, Christopher, Aurelia, & William Webb and Jacob, Gabriel, Lucas, and Stephen Bleile.

She is preceded in death by her parents, John & Louise (Lipp) Kuemmel; her husband, Charles W. Cummings; and her grandson, Andrew M. Webb.

Friends may call from 10 AM until time of memorial service at 11 AM Friday March 4, 2022, at Grace Lutheran Church, 203 S. Washington St., Castalia.  Pastor Kathleen Suggitt will officiate.  Burial will be held at a later date.  Ransom Funeral & Cremation Service, Castalia, is in charge of the arrangements.
