Karl B. Lehrer, 89, of Huron and formerly of Castalia, died Tuesday, April 20, in Cleveland Metro Health following a brief illness.
He was born Dec. 15, 1931, in Sandusky, and was a 1949 graduate of Sandusky High School. After graduating from Bowling Green State University, he taught school in Sandusky and then became an administrator at Margaretta Schools retiring in 1983. He was also employed at Castalia Electric. He was a veteran of the U. S. Coast Guard.
He attended Trinity Lutheran Church; was a member and past president of the Castalia Lions Club, where he was the oldest living member; and was a past member of the International Musicians and International Magicians. He played bass guitar in the Bob Montgomery Band and the Ange Damante Band for many years.
He loved boating, camping, performing his magic tricks to anyone who would listen, raveling, and for 24 years he and Jane were Snow Birds in Lantana, FL.
Karl is survived by his wife the former Jane Milliman, to whom they were married for 65 years; 2 daughters Adelle (Gene) Hoffman of Castalia, and Sally (Marty) Smith of Castalia; 5 grandchildren Katie (Eric) Berg, Karen (Ryan) Berg, Bradley(Becky) Hoffman, Tiffany (Brent) Maillard, and Alex Smith; 9 great grandchildren Gage, Ava, Tate, Zeke, Jana, Julia, Jace, Gavin, and Macie; one sister Kathleen Sharp of Clyde; one brother Kenneth (Donna) Lehrer of Castalia; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents George and Katherine Lehrer; brother George Lehrer; brother and sister in law Bill and Mary Hoffman; and brother in law Gene Sharp.
Friends may call from 9:30 am Friday, April 23, until time of services at 11:00 am in the Ransom Funeral and Cremation Service, 610 S. Washington St., Castalia. The Castalia Lions will have a memorial service at 11 am followed by a funeral service conducted by the Rev. Philip Gardner. Burial will be in Castalia Cemetery.
