James P. Gerold, 90, of Huron and formerly of Castalia, died Saturday morning, July 31, 2021, in Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky.
He was born March 28, 1931, in Sandusky, and was a 1949 graduate of Sandusky High School. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1950 - 1954, and was a member of the American Legion and Amvets. He was employed by Mielke Furniture Refinishing, NASA for 30 years, and retired from Sverdrup Corp.
He enjoyed traveling, camping, woodworking, OSU Football, Cleveland Indians and Browns, living in Florida, and cruising the Caribbean and Panama Canal.
Jim is survived by his wife, the former Donna Johnston, to whom he was married for 58 years; sons Scott (Melissa) Gerold, and Craig Gerold; 5 grandchildren Alyssa, Brianna, Caylee, Michaela, and Matthew Gerold; his first great grandchild due this month; 4 sisters Jane Daniel, Mary Potts, Gloria (Dale) Hertzfeld, and Kay Benefiel; brother Glenn (Diane) Gerold; sisters-in-law Carol Olsen and Peggy Johnston, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Pierre W. and Eleanore (Winklea) Gerold; brother Tom Gerold and his wife Joanne; Sister Phyllis Ann Gerold; brothers-in-law John Johnston, Bob Daniel, and Karl Potts; nephew Steven Olsen; and niece Amy Gibson.
Services will be postponed at this time, due to a positive Covid 19 test in the family. Funeral services will be announced later.
