Harold Kenneth Balduff, 87, residing in Castalia, passed away Tuesday, July 26, 2022. He was born February 17, 1935, to Kenneth Scheid Balduff and Elsie (Schwanger) Balduff.
Harold was a lifelong Castalia and Vickery resident. He graduated from Townsend Township High School in 1953. He was a Military Policeman from 1956-1958, serving in Tokyo, Japan.
He was the beloved husband of Carol Erma Hacker Balduff. Their first date was Harold’s high school graduation day in May of 1953. They became engaged while Harold was in the army. The devoted couple wrote to one another nearly every day before he returned home. They were married June 15, 1958. They celebrated 60 years of marriage before Carol’s passing in July of 2018.
Harold was a self-employed farmer before embarking on a 38-year career with Sandusky Dressed Beef and Producers Livestock as a cattle buyer.
Harold and Carol enjoyed fishing with their sons and grandchildren while boating on Lake Erie. They took great pleasure in spending time with their grandchildren. Harold also spent time helping his nephews Patrick and Kevin and his brother “Red” with their farming operations.
Harold is survived by three sons, Dean (Jackie) Balduff of New Lenox, Illinois, Bradley (Teal) Balduff and Brian (Christine Stamp) Balduff of Castalia; grandchildren Ashley (Gary) Grueshaber, Erik (Macy) Balduff, Brenna (Wilson) Henry, Dustin (Carolyn) Balduff, Drew Balduff, Trent Balduff, Austin Balduff (Gene Gall), and Magen Damschroder; great grandchildren Parker, Cora, Emery, Nash, Rhett, Kaden, Kolton, Addie, and Brynn; siblings Leon (Virginia) Balduff, and Jeanne Usselman, brother-in-law Chuck Hacker, and sisters-in-law Alyce Felske and Jane Hoelzer, and several other nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Friends and family may pay respects by attending a funeral service at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, August 1st at the Castalia Congregational United Church of Christ at 205 Main Street, Castalia, Ohio. Pastor John Paputza will officiate. A luncheon will immediately follow the funeral service in the church fellowship hall. A private family ceremony of burial will take place after the luncheon.
