Guadalupe J. “Wally” Sosa, age 82, of Sandusky, passed away Saturday, September 3, 2022, in his residence.
He was born December 12, 1939, in Laredo, TX, and as a young boy Wally would travel to Ohio with his family to work in the fields harvesting vegetables and fruit for Harkness Farms. His family eventually settled in Crystal Rock in the early 1950’s. Wally graduated from Margaretta High School in 1959; where he played football for the Polar Bears, scoring the very first touchdown on the brand-new gridiron next to the duck pond in September of 1958. After high school, he worked for the local supermarkets as a meat cutter and then took a position at New Departure Hyatt in 1971, retiring in 2001. Wally attended Holy Angels Catholic Church, Sandusky, and enjoyed cookouts, dancing, “treasure hunting”, helping the neighborhood kids, sports; especially the Cleveland Indians, and his cat “Buddy Boy”.
He is survived by his wife Linda; five children Lori Mathews, FL, Jeffrey (Melodi) Sosa, Bellevue, Brian Sosa, New London, Debra (Kenny) Hill, Bidwell, and Tricia Weaver, Castalia; three stepchildren Lance (Jenny) Barnum, Sandusky, Eric (Ashley) Barnum, Sandusky, and Melissa (Barry) Criswell, Clyde; 28 grandchildren; and 24 great grandchildren.
Wally also leaves to cherish his memory siblings Audrey Day, Felix (Crusita) Sosa, Betty (Steve) Sidoti, and Rick Sosa; and several nieces and nephews.
Wally is preceded in death by his parents Felix and Mary (Gutierrez) Sosa; brother Jimmy Sosa; and sister Dorothy Haerr.
Friends may call from 1 PM until time of services at 3 PM Thursday September 8, 2022, at Ransom Funeral & Cremation Service, 610 S. Washington St., Castalia. Burial will take place at later date in Castalia Cemetery.
