Mary Louise (Hauck) Zeck, age 86, passed away Saturday, February 11, 2023, at her home surrounded by family. Mary Lu was born April 7th, 1936, in Toledo, to the late Clarence and Louise (O'Donnell) Hauck. She took great pride in being born under the Cherry Street bridge on the Cleveland Cliffs lake freighter, captained by her father.
She graduated from Margaretta High School in 1954. She worked in the Erie County Auditors office and for Holy Angels Catholic Church as the Bulletin Secretary. In her spare time, she enjoyed cooking, baking, counted cross stitch, gardening in her flowerbeds and spending time with her family and friends.
Mary Lu was a very active member of Holy Angels Parish. She loved serving her church and community. She organized and founded the Holy Angels Christmas Cookie Walk in 1990, and this annual fund raiser continues to today. She was a team captain of bereavement ministry, a Eucharistic minister, and served on many church and school organizations over the years.
Mary Lu married Julius C. Zeck on Oct 12, 1957, and lived 65 years of a blessed marriage together. They have 3 children, 6 granddaughters, and 5 great grandchildren.
Mary Lu is survived by her husband Julius and her three children, Ken Zeck of Castalia, Jim (Kim) Zeck of New Baltimore, Michigan and Lisa (Matt) Laws of Cortland, Ohio; grandchildren, Kristine (Chris) DeSmet, Kelly (Aaron) Sleight, Kathleen Zeck, Megan (Jacob) Swanson, Lauren Laws; great-grandchildren Benjamin, Annalyn, Layla, Michael, and Scarlett; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Mary Lu was preceded in death by her brother John, step-brothers Edward, and Fred and granddaughter Kelsey Zeck. She was very loved and will be missed by many.
Friends may call from 4-7 PM Friday, February 17, 2023, at Ransom Funeral & Cremation Service, 610 S. Washington St., Castalia, followed by a Vigil Service and Rosary at 7 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM Saturday, February 18, 2023, in Holy Angels Catholic Church, 428 Tiffin Avenue, Sandusky. Burial will take place at Castalia Cemetery.
