Marilyn M.
(Hamman) Farrell
December 23, 1933 – June 27, 2016
Marilyn May (Hamman) Farrell, 82, of Sandusky, went home to Heaven on Monday, June 27, 2016, in the Stein Hospice Care Center.
Marilyn was born December 23, 1933, in Vermilion, to Lola Leona (Helfrich) Hamman and Jesse Quinby Hamman. On August 30, 1952, she married her high school sweetheart, Richard Lee (Dick) Farrell. Their marriage of sixty three years has been an inspiration. Together they enjoyed vacations to St. Simon's Island and attended many Elder hostels, continuing Great Courses when travel was no longer possible. Their collection of cobalt blue glass is treasured by their family.
Marilyn was self-employed as an Avon representative for 25 years. With a deep and abiding faith in Jesus, she was always active in her church, teaching Sunday School, singing in choirs, and leading women's groups. She participated in Church Women United, and for many years, delivered Meals on Wheels. Marilyn was a friend to all.
She was a prolific poet and composer, co-writing, directing, and producing "The Rock Opera", which was performed at the State Theater in 1981. In 2014, her family published a collection of her poetry and lyrics for the enjoyment of many. In her 70's, she began the art of wood carving, creating beautifully carved and painted birds. When she was no longer able to carve, she taught herself to draw. Marilyn has been a wonderful steward in the use of her God-given abilities.
Marilyn is survived by her husband Dick and their three children: Brenda (Gary) Kerlin, Bruce (Clair) Hamilton-Farrell, and Jennifer (Jim) DeCamp. She has had the joy of five grandchildren; Josh (Nicole) Kerlin, Jillian (Andy) Miller, Abigail DeCamp Grove, Katelyn DeCamp, and Shannon (Kevin) Wasie. Marilyn and Dick have been blessed with 8 great grandchildren Isabella, Shauna, Gavin, Luke, Cael, Levi, Adelaide, and Nolan. She is also survived by her sister Dorothy (Hamman) Walker of Vermilion, and a brother Donald Hamman of Fort Wayne, IN.
She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 siblings Charles Hamman and Jesse Hamman, and 2 grandchildren.
