Linda S. Barnette, age 64, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 4, 2026, surrounded by family at the Cleveland Clinic due to complications from Pulmonary Fibrosis.
Linda was a lifelong resident of Castalia, OH. She was a graduate of Margaretta High School in 1980; where she played the drums and cymbals as part of the Polar Bear marching band. One of Linda’s favorite things was to get dressed up and she was a fashion plate working at Best Products in the Sandusky Mall for several years. Linda worked at the Castalia Market for many years until her retirement this year. She was always at the front of the store – the first person to greet customers, always with a smile on her face. Everybody knew Linda.
Twenty three years ago, Linda met the love of her life, Jeffery R. Barnette, and they married on August 17, 2007 – just recently celebrating their 19 year anniversary together with a feast brought home from the Olive Garden. Linda’s favorite place to be was home with Jeff, living for the last several years at her family’s old farmhouse.
Linda loved the fall, loved Christmas, loved making crafts, and loved decorating the house for the holidays. What Linda loved more than anything else was her family. A piece of her heart, her beloved son Lucas, passed away suddenly two years ago and her heart never healed the loss. Linda was also preceded in death by her cherished stepson Garrett Barnette, her oldest sister Nancy Bath, brother in-law Larry Bath, as well as her parents Franklin and Dora (Meggitt) Borchardt.
Her loving and heartbroken husband Jeffery Barnette survives her, as does her daughter Lorellei (Jerry) Smith; stepsons Jeffery (Samantha) Barnette and Benjamin Barnette; stepdaughters Danah (Eric) Balduff and Penny Barnette; seven grandsons; seven granddaughters; sisters Peggy (George) Lenyo, Joanne (Mike) Shelley, and Diane (Tim) Moore; several nieces and nephews; and her BFF and niece Julie (David) Perry.
Linda will be missed by all that knew and loved her. She was a bright light with a beautiful soul. Our hearts are broken but are given comfort in knowing hate her loved ones will be waiting for her in heaven, led by her son, Lucas.
Friends may call from 1 PM until time of memorial service at 3:30 PM on Sunday September 20, 2026, at Ransom Funeral & Cremation Service, 610 S. Washington St., Castalia. Pastor Mike Shelley will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation, 223 W. Jackson Blvd. Suite 350 Chicago, IL 60606 and to Project Noel, 605 Broadway St. Sandusky, OH 44870. Online condolences may be shared with the family by visiting www.ransomfuneralhome.com
