Kim R. Valentine, age 73, of Kelleys Island, passed away peacefully Monday morning, September 30, 2024, in his home.
He was born June 24, 1951, in Toledo, and graduated from Bowser High School in 1969. Shortly after high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve where he served for 32 years. Kim was a supervisor at General Motors, Toledo, and retired after 39 years in 2009.
Kim received his MBA from the University of Toledo. He taught at Owens Community College and was chairman of the business college, before his second retirement. Kim had an active civic life as well, a member of the Harbor Light Masonic Lodge, Riverview Yacht Club, and the Lake Erie Waterkeepers as a board member.
Kim enjoyed boating and had a great love of Kelleys Island and Lake Erie. He was a proud boat owner and captain who loved fishing; especially with his grandson Skyler. He was a proud father, step father and grandfather. Kim and his beloved wife Julie built their dream home on Kelleys Island in 2016, where they began island life. Kim enjoyed part time employment on the KI Ferry boat line, and served as Village Administrator on Kelleys Island.
He is survived by his wife Julie (LeBowski) Valentine; sons Dr. Christopher (Stephanie) Valentine and Dr. Brandon (Jessica) Valentine; step children Edward (Kristy) Donnelly and Megan (Joe) Schuck; 11 grandchildren; sister Sandra Lass; and several nieces and nephews.
Kim was preceded in death by his parents Harold and Mary Valentine; and step-daughter Kristen Donnelly (his "angel in the red dress").
Memorial services will be held on Saturday October 26, 2024, at 1 PM at Zion United Methodist Church 102 Chappell St., Kelleys Island. Ransom Funeral & Cremation Service, Castalia, is in charge of the arrangements.
