Obituary

David Joseph Fitz, age 68, of Sandusky, passed away unexpectedly Friday morning, June 19, 2026, on his family farm.

He was born March 25, 1958, in Sandusky, and graduated from Margaretta High School in 1976. After High School, David went to work full time on the Fitz family farm and was a lifelong farmer. When he wasn’t farming, Dave enjoyed spending time talking, laughing and having a beer with his son, Jake. He enjoyed going to the casinos. He also enjoyed his daily scratch off lottery tickets, which he picked up the habit from his father and his son, David John, plans on continuing that legacy. David John is also grateful for the great memories of farming, fishing, swimming, movie nights, and visits with Dave’s friends; memories only a dad could make magical. Dave was a man of many and few words all at once. If he enjoyed the conversation, he would stay and if he didn’t, he would redirect it or walk away. He had a sarcastic quick wit humor, which never failed to get a chuckle. He was a kind compassionate man, who was good at defusing bad situations. He was a problem solver and good at keeping the peace, a skill which will be dearly missed.

He was a devoted Dad and Grandfather, caring deeply for his sons and their happiness and was endlessly proud of his granddaughter’s accomplishments. Dave was a caregiver to many important people, including his late parents and Uncle Rollie, and recently his Aunt Nancy. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Sandusky.

He is survived by three sons David John Fitz, Jacob (Julie) Fitz, and Chris Dwight; granddaughter Savannah Fitz; five sisters Barb (Craig) Bowsher, Mary Jo Frasca, Lori Arnold (Michael), Karen (Dave) Eckert, and Diane (Dean) Keegan; three brothers Paul (Kathy) Fitz, Tom Fitz, and Ed Fitz (Linda); Aunt Nancy Fitz and Aunt Marge (Fitz) Crecelius and many nieces and nephews.

David was preceded in death by his parents Paul and Agnes (Kromer) Fitz; grandparents; many aunts and uncles, specifically his Uncle Rolland Fitz; sister in-law Mary Fitz; and brother in-law Richard Frasca.

Services will be held at St. Marys Catholic Church on Monday, June 29th at 10:00 a.m. Ransom Funeral & Cremation Service, Castalia, is in charge of the arrangements.

Memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Church, 429 Central Ave, Sandusky and Back To The Wild Inc., 4504 Bardshar Rd. Castalia. Online condolences and gifts of sympathy may be shared with the family by visiting www.ransomfuneralhome.com
