Amy Jean
(Kopfman) Berling
June 24, 1950 – October 12, 2024
Hon. Amy Jean Berling (Kopfman) age 74, passed away peacefully at sunrise in her home on Kelleys Island, OH, on October 12, 2024. Her favorite place on earth was the island, and her favorite time of day was sunrise.
Amy retired from her Judge's seat in the Toledo Municipal Court after faithfully serving her hometown community for 29 years. Before her first successful election in 1995, she served as an attorney in Toledo after putting herself through law school at the University of Toledo while raising her two children. She graduated with a degree in education from the University of Toledo and was homecoming queen at Bowsher High School.
While the public knew her as a fair and respectable judge, her personal life was consumed with a love for her quiet times on Kelleys Island and her great enjoyment being Mimi to her 3 grandchildren. Mimi lover her grandchildren so much. She spent countless weekends with them painting rocks, eating ice cream and playing at the beach on Kelleys Island. They spent much time all snuggled up together rewatching favorite Disney movies with their favorite snacks. She was the biggest cheerleader to the grandchildren and always wanted them to do their best. She always told them of her love for them and her love for Jesus.
As a young woman and mother, Amy spent many nights enjoying family and laughing at her parent's homestead settled on Swan Creek in south Toledo. Holidays at the homestead with Amy had all the family coziness and joy a family could ask for. She joined in the spontaneous fun of her daughter's dancing, her father's and brother's humor, her mother's quirks, and her son's constant exuberance.
She will be missed by her family, friends, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. Amy is survived by her brother Robert Kopfman; sister in-law Sharon; daughter Holly (Lambdin) Glupker; son in-law Steven; son Max Lambdin, daughter in-law Deborah; precious grandchildren Jordan (Lambdin) Decessna and her husband John, Hailey Lambdin, and Solomon Lambdin. She is preceded in Heaven by her parents Donald and Doris Kopfman; and her beloved first daughter Heather Lambdin.
In the last week of Amy's life, she experienced a gracious reconciliation of friendship with her first husband, and father to her children, Jerry Lambdin and his wife Laura Wagner Lambdin. This act of care and kindness is a blessing to the entire family, and a testament to God's faithfulness.
A private service will be held for the family on Kelleys Island. Ransom Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Castalia, is in charge of the arrangements.
In lieu of any condolences or gifts, the family asks that you hug your loved one's hard, be a friend to another, forgive each other quickly, and give to any charity of your choice in her honor.
