Steven R. Gowitzka

Steven R. Gowitzka, age 62, of Castalia, died Sunday, July 8, 2018,  in Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky, following complications from Lyme Disease and ALS.

He was born Oct. 26, 1955, in Sandusky, and was a 1974 graduate of Fremont Ross High School. He was involved in his family fishing business, and then was in the insurance business for several years, becoming co-owner of the Carabin Insurance Agency until his retirement in 2017.  He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Castalia, and the Huron Township Conservation Club. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and hunting.

Steve is survived by his wife, the former Clarice Koch, to whom he was married for 41 years; daughter Heather (Brian) Garbe; son Greg (Ashlie) Gowitzka; 4 grandchildren Alexandra, Landon, Luke, and James; parents Robert and Margory Gowitzka; sister Bobbi (Mike) Florez; brothers-in-law Gary Koch and Dean (Robin) Koch; several aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brother Danny Gowitzka; grandparents Luther and Emma Gowitzka;  and Bryan and Laurel Griffin.

Friends may call from 5-8 pm Tuesday, July 10, 2018, in the Ransom Funeral and Cremation Service, 610 S. Washington St., Castalia, and from 10 am Weds., July 11, until time of service at 11 am in Grace Lutheran Church, 203 S. Washington St., Castalia. The Rev. Kathleen Suggitt will officiate and burial will be in Castalia Cemetery.
