Herman K. Hillenbrand, age 82, of Castalia, passed away Wednesday, February 14, 2024, at Cleveland Metrohealth Hospital.
He was born May 24, 1941, in Sandusky, and graduated from Sandusky St. Mary’s Catholic School in 1959. He served in the U.S. Army. He began working for Wally’s Grocery and then the Pick and Pay, which switched names to Tops Grocery, where he retired from after 48 years of being the produce manager. He later went to work for Home Depot as a salesclerk for over 19 years, retiring again in 2023. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Sandusky, AMVET, and American Legion. He enjoyed listening to all the Ohio sports teams on the radio.
He is survived by his wife Linda (VanCauwenbergh) Hillenbrand; daughters Heidi (Isaac) Troyer, and Hayley (Billy) Alten; grandchildren Adam, Breanna, and Ensley; brother Thomas Hillenbrand; and several nieces and nephews.
Herman was preceded in death by his parents Bernard and Dorothy (Harp) Hillenbrand; and brother Bernie Hillenbrand.
Friends may call from 4-7 PM Monday, February 19, 2024, at Ransom Funeral & Cremation Service, 610 S. Washington St., Castalia, where services will be held on Tuesday at 10 AM. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.
